JUST BEFORE MONDAY
Instagram artists are jazzing up the usual marshmallow and cocoa cups this Christmas, Yoshita Rao reports
Mimzy and Marshy are taking a swim in a cup of hot cocoa to escape the bitter cold of the frigid Trillium forest. Their rosy cheeks, sparkly big eyes and mouths partially agape are typical of the magical creatures that roam that part of the woods. But Mimzy and Marshy are just a couple of marshmallow characters and a figment of Jackie Harder's imagination (@jackieharderart). The imaginary forests is located in the Appalachian region of the United States, and named after a native flower. The 31-year-old Harder imagines all her media creatures with similar features and then molds them out of clay. Like her, there are others, who are experimenting with marshmallow art to ring in the festive cheer. Whether they're stylised out of clay, or the actual sugar-based confectionery - art from marshmallows might just be one of the latest fads found on Instagram.
Toasting Snowmen
Who wouldn't want marshmallow art with a side of cocoa? Art that is almost too pretty to eat. Take for instance Yuliya Kudasheva's account (@yuliyakudasheva) that has a marshmallow snowman barbecuing on a stick above a steaming hot cup of cocoa that is laced with another layer of marshmallows and topped with cocoa powder. The 34-year-old Russian photographer from Kaliningrad has been capturing food art for over four years now and is working on spreading Christmas cheer through toasting snowmen.
Clouds of fluff
Away from the hot chocolate cups is food photography blog - @LuxeandtheLady's pink unicorn hot cocoa that come in all shades including pink, blue and green. These delightful-looking rainbow coloured cups are made from white chocolate and topped off with fluffy cloud shaped marshmallows that have different kinds of expressions. Some have a seemingly mischievous look while others are winking, blushing and smiling.
Mrs Claus' Kitchen
And then there's Mrs Claus' Instagram account (x_mrsclaus_x), which presents a fluffy marshmallow layer of all with heads of three snowmen smiling in unison. She is not alone in her love for snowmen as another food blogging website Chowhound's Insta account also has a bunch of floating snowmen heads. These appear to be melting away in the warmth of the cocoa instead of being barbecued on top of it.
Marshmallow pigs
Marshmallows are also being shaped to look like piglets. Liliia Zaiarniuk (@liliia_z) has used different shades of pink and fused marshmallows together to form fluffy-looking pigs. Leaving no detail unattended, they're complete with squishy snouts, pointy-ears and even squiggly tails!
