Tigress can’t be relocated to Mukundra reserve, rules Rajasthan High Court

The Rajasthan High Court has maintained that as the petition filed against the shifting of Tiger T-91 from Ranthambore to Mukunda is pending, therefore the two tigress cannot be shifted there. Along with this, the court has postponed the hearing till July 9. The division bench of Justice KS Jhaveri and Justice VK Vyas passed the order while hearing the PIL filed by one Ajay Shankar Dubey.

During the hearing, Chief Wildlife Warden GV Reddy appeared before the court. On the other hand time was sought by the state government in the matter. On behalf of the petitioner, advocate Anurag Kalavatia informed the court that the government is asking for time to shift the two tigress from Ranthambore to Mukundara.

It may be recalled Principal chief conservator of forests, GV Reddy had informed the high court that the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve near Bundi would not be opened to tourists, nor would any tourist activity be conducted around the newest sanctuary for big cats in Rajasthan till the Court decides on the case related to translocation of a tiger which is under dispute.

A PIL had argued that the state forest department went ahead with the translocation of T 91 despite its failure to meet the guidelines laid down by National Tiger Conservation Authority.
