The armed forces have been put on a high alert along the Indo-Pak border. The decision comes in after the terror attack on the CRPF convoy in Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir, which claimed the lives of 40 jawans.

Since Rajasthan shares a greater part of the international boundary with the neighbouring Pakistan, the army has taken measures to tackle any move by enemy and/or terrorists in this part of the country.

The state shares more than 1,000-km boundary with Pakistan. According to sources, a Red Alert has been sounded in the border area. This calls for increased vigilance and intensified counter measures that can be brought into effect in case of an enemy move.

Sources said that the leaves and offs of men serving on the armed forces has not yet been cancelled or revoked. “There is no call yet by the Centre on immediate retaliation and so far we are ensuring that our troops are safe,” an official said.

He added, “The men in service are called back from their leaves only in case of a mobilisation of forces, but that is not happening now.” However, wherever, deployment of additional forces is required and necessitated, the army will recall its men to duty, the source added.

Officials also said that such an alert had bene sounded in wake of the Uri terror attack. The vigilance was then stepped up in Rajasthan border areas. Cycle patrolling was taken up as a preferred means of keeping vigil for it enabled the soldiers to remain in stealth mode. Night patrolling was also intensified around that time, officials said.
