As if contesting from a new seat and facing opposition Congress was not enough for transport minister Yunus Khan, now the retired employees have also started opposing him in Tonk. On Saturday, the retired employees of Rajasthan Roadways organized ‘Hunkar rally BJP Bachao, Rajasthan Bachao, Roadways Bachao, Rozgaar Bachao” rally in Tonk. The retired employees took out the rally from the main markets of tonk and were carrying banners opposing BJP. They were shouting slogans against Yunus Khan and chief minister Vasundhara Raje.

The rally converted into a public meeting near roadways workshop. The retired roadways employees made speeches and claimed that the BJP government had been pushing roadways into a loss-making entity. Roadways employees had organised a very long strike from September 16 and had ended it only after the imposition of model code of conduct in the state.

The employees were upset that nobody from the government came to the discussion table to get the issues resolved and kind of ignored the agitation. The strike was conducted for various issues, which also included giving the retirement benefits to the retired employees.

Even though the strike had ended, the roadways employees had vowed to oppose Yunus Khan, who is holding the charge of transport and PWD in this government, during the elections. They did exactly as per plan on Saturday. In Tonk, Khan is locked in a tight contest with PCC president Sachin Pilot. While Pilot is contesting his first assembly election from this seat, Khan is regularly contesting from Deedwana in Nagaur and is fighting from Tonk for the first time.

BJP had delayed declaring his name from Deedwana and it was being rumoured that he was not being given the ticket, however, BJP threw as surprise after Pilot was fielded by Congress from Tonk and declared the name of Khan from there even though sitting MLA Ajit Singh Mehta’s name was already declared by the party from Tonk. Since then, both Khan and Mehta have been campaigning together for BJP.

Both Pilot and Khan have been campaigning extensively and have been conducting public meetings in the constituency and Khan has been claiming that this election is now between Pilot and Public.
