Rajasthan: With 49.47 score, Sikar tops dist healthcare ranking

In the latest ‘Misal’ ranking for the month of July, Sikar is at the top with 49.47 score followed by Jhunjhunu, Chittorgarh and Shriganganagar.

It is believed that despite strong efforts by the health department, apathy from officials is the biggest roadblock in improvement of the health facilities in those areas that fail to get proper attention at national or state levels. ‘Misal’, the monthly health ranking of Rajasthan’s districts once has once again pointed out at the dismal situation. In the report, that ranks districts on the basis of healthcare services, remote and backward districts are lurching at the bottom while the districts with better development indicators are among the top performers.

In the latest ‘Misal’ ranking for the month of July, Sikar is at the top with 49.47 score followed by Jhunjhunu, Chittorgarh and Shriganganagar. Sikar had secured the first place in the list for the month of May as well when the ranking was issued for the first time. Hanumnagarh is also in the top 10 performance district. In fact, Haumnagarh has shown the best improvement in the rank to reach at number 8 in August from the 17th rank in July ranking.

Health department issues the ranking of districts each month on the work done by the health department officials in their respective districts on the basis of mark secured by them in the three different categories including outcomes, intermediate outcomes and input or processes having weightage of 25%, 55% and 20% respectively.

Under these categories, the districts gets marks on the basis of various indicators including maternal mortality ratio, neonatal mortality rate, under five mortality rate, infant mortality rate, sick new-born care unit survival rate, full immunization coverage, patient satisfaction, birth in health institutions, percentage of low birth weight among new born, antenatal check-ups, family planning, depression diagnoses,TB case notification rate, medicine availability, test availability and doctor attendance.

Jaisalmer and Barmer districts are at the bottom of the ranking. Dholpur, Banswara,, Dungarpur, Swai Madhopur and Karauli are in also in bottom 12 performers. Jaipur-I and Jaipur-II, despite of being parts of state capital, are in middle 12 districts with dismal performance at 22 and 19 rank respectively.
