The Sariska forest department is in a fix again and this time, another tiger has been lost due to negligence. The officials allegedly failed to treat an injured tiger who had sustained injuries in a territorial fight with another tiger.

Though the feline was way past its prime, and the recovery was also slow, sources reveal that not enough was done to make sure that no stones were left unturned to get the tiger back on its feet.

Notably, only in the past ten months, Sariska has lost three tigers, all due to the negligence of the department. The dead tiger has been identified as tiger ST-4.

“ST-4 had been brought to Sariska from Ranthambhore Tiger Reserve under the state government’s tiger translocation project after all the tigers were poached in 2005. ST-4 was released in Sariska in July 2010 and since then, it fathered two litters,” officials said.

Recently, the tiger entered in a territorial fight with another tiger and sustained injuries in the process. “The fight occurred between ST6 and ST4 around a fortnight back. As a result of the fight, ST4 sustained bone fracture at two places. The tiger, which is already past its prime and is an old tiger, found it hard to even stand up. It was then brought to the enclosure at Sariska so that it can be provided treatment,” officials said.

However, sources claim that this is where the problem happened in the tiger’s treatment. “Instead of giving the tiger raw meat, they tied a live animal in the enclosure. The tiger found it hard to even move around let alone bringing down an animal and it is thus suspected that the tiger died of not getting anything to eat,” sources said.

Notably, since a plaster cast was not possible for ST4, the vets had given multivitamins to speed the healing process. “However, since the tiger couldn’t eat, slowly its power ebbed away,” sources said.

Live Animal Tied
