In the wake of controversy in electoral rolls during the recent Rajasthan Assembly elections, the election authorities have geared up to scan rolls, removing double and multiple entries of the voters. Chief Electoral Officer Anand Kumar has instructed district electoral officers to remove entries of such voters by launching a drive by February 3.

“Booth level officers will visit households of the voters to verify their credentials by January 25. They shall have to dispose of double and multiple entries of voters by February 3. If the entries are found fudged then their names will be removed within seven days after issuing notices to the voters concerned,” said Kumar while addressing the election officers.

The CEO informed the officials that camps in the higher education institutions are being held to enroll eligible registered voters and ‘this work needs to be taken seriously.”

In wake of coming Lok Sabha election the state election department has geared up to update the voters list. The election authorities held special camps at the polling booths across the state on January 13. The CEO has appealed to eligible voters to add their names in the rolls so that they could take part in the festival of democracy due in April-May. The young who turned 18 years old as on January 31, 2019 are eligible to apply for being voters under the special summary revision programme going on.

The state election department has also appealed to political parties to take part in the programme to refine rolls. “The political parties representatives with the help of their booth level agents identify double and multiple entries of voters so these could be deleted after proper verification,” said an official.

Congress during recent assembly elections had raised issue of double and multi entries of voters before the ECI.

On the other hand the election officials said that if voters have any doubt regarding their names they can search name in Raj Election app available on Google play store. Downloading the application a voter now may search his or her name in the rolls. “To ease voters in finding names and check information the app has been designed. It was a hit in recent Assembly polls and many voters downloaded it to satisfy their queries,” said an election officer.

Over 4.74 crore were registered voters as per final rolls published for recent Assembly elections. Figure may escalate further as rolls will be revised including those who turned 18 as on January 31, 2019.
