In a shocking incident a youth from the city allegedly committed suicide by consuming sulphos and his body was found on Sunday morning.
The deceased has been identified as Abhishek Singh Shekhawat, son of Ram Singh, who is an assistant commandant with RAC. He was an ex-Rajasthan University student leader.
According to the police, locals from Harmada area saw the body and informed the police after which a team from local police station rushed the spot. The cops established the identity of the deceased and were shocked to find that he was the son of a police officer. The reason for the youth’s act is unknown as of now and the police are investigating.
According to the officials, the deceased is a resident of Vidhyadhar Nagar area of the city. “Abhishek’s father is a senior police officer currently posted in the RAC. On Sunday morning, we received a call wherein the caller, a villagers from Bagwara village, informed that the body of a youth was found in the jungles near the village. On receiving the information, a team was sent to the spot from Harmada police station,” officials said.
Upon reaching the spot, the police team checked the pockets of the deceased to search for any documents that could reveal his identity. “A car was also found nearby and the registration numbers were run through the data. Based on the documents recovered, the youth was identified and the family members were contacted. It was then learnt that he was the son of a police official,” the cops said.
The police then contacted the family members and took the body to mortuary for post mortem after the family members reached.
“It has come to light that the youth had been seen on Saturday evening, near the spot where his body was found on Sunday. We have not recovered any suicide note and the reason for the youth’s acts are unknown. Once investigation is initiated and the family members will be questioned, only then can the reason be known,” officials said.

- There was a Maruti Swift car parked near the body. The police recovered some poisonous substance from the car, leading to suspicion that Abhishek may have committed suicide. Abhishek was an advocate.
- According to sources, Abhishek had gone out on Saturday in his car but failed to return home after that. The police have started investigations into the incident after sending the body for postmortem.
