Rajasthan Assembly Elections 2018: Traders close market to cast their vote

A pleasant and welcome change was witnessed in Jaipur as the business and trading community was also in the forefront when it comes to voting. Therefore, the markets remained closed for most of the time on Friday in the city as traders and businessmen exercised their franchise. From very early morning, businessmen and traders were seen going, with their families, to cast their votes. The offices and factories in industrial areas were also closed as the administration had declared a public holiday for voting on Friday. The employees and the factory workers also voted in large numbers.

The result was that all major markets remained closed. The Walled City markets which are considered to be the symbol of all shopping were also closed throughout the day. The various vyapaar mandals of the city market had appealed to vote in large number on Friday and closing of markets encouraged the trading community. The markets outside the Walled City like MI Road, Raja Park, Bajaj Nagar, Tonk Phatak etc too were closed and only a few shops were opened.

Since it was a holiday and all the business establishments were closed, the people who were enjoying holiday also went to vote and came back home happily. “We did not open the shop as the market was closed and we went with entire family to vote,” said a sweet shop owner in Malviya Nagar. State’s museums and monuments run by the department of archaeology remained closed on Friday. As such, the tourists were not able to see Amber Fort, Albert Hall, Hawa Mahal and such monuments in the city while the other monuments of the department of archaeology in other cities in the state also remained closed. Banks also remained closed.
