The Mavli seat in Udaipur division is one where a tale of a special friendship resulted in a change of ticket. Hardik Patel, the Gujarat Patidar leader, stood up for his friend Pushkar Lal Dangi in his time of need and managed to get the Congress leadership to change its declared ticket in favour of Dangi.

Dangi, a former Congress legislator, had been the host to Hardik when he was living in Udaipur for six months following a Gujarat High Court order that prevented him from entering in Gujarat. Not just this, Dangi would often accompany Hardik to the police station where he had to sign in a register every week. This was when Rajasthan had a BJP government and the police was deployed around Dangi's house that Hardik was living in.

Dangi was a forerunner for the ticket from Mavli, but when the list was declared ticket was given to Lal Singh Jhala. A disheartened Dangi called up Hardik and announced his decision to fight as an independent. Telling him to put tight Hardik promptly travelled to Delhi where he met Congress president Rahul Gandhi and got the ticket for Mavli changed in favour of Dangi.

"Yes I did request Rahul Gandhi Ji that my friend Pushkar Dangi Ji is a winning candidate. I explained the dynamics of the seat to him and thankfully the ticket was changed," Hardik told DNA.

Things changed in favour of Dangi on late Sunday night and Congress changing its earlier decision, made him the party candidate from mavli. Monday was the last day for filing nominations, which Dangi did, as a Congress candidate.

"Hardik is like a family member. Yes he did speak to Rahul Gandhi, but I would say it was for a justifiable demand of the people of this area,"said Dangi to DNA.

Congress however was more discreet, "Several leaders recommend for any particular candidate. But final decision is taken by the Parliamentary board of the party and in case of Mavli seat too the same was done," said Avinash Pandey state incharge for Congress in Rajasthan.
