BJP president dumps original plan of camping in Jaipur and planning the party’s campaign in light of the approaching code of conduct

Stepping up preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections, BJP national president Amit Shah will address party rank and file on September 16 in Jodhpur. Jodhpur is considered to be the stronghold of former chief minister Ashok Gehlot. Shah is scheduled to address five back-to-back meetings where he will share with the BJP office bearers and workers how the party plans to pull off a second term in the state.

This would be Shah’s second visit to Rajasthan in a week after his recent Jaipur visit where he attended multiple meetings with partymen and the RSS leaders.  Sources said that Shah would be travelling more often to Rajasthan now because of the change in plans.

“The original plan was that he would be camping in Jaipur for several days in a stretch and seek feedback of the party workers from different districts and tutor them in the party’s line of thinking ahead of the elections,” an official said.

But with the BJP’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra still far from over and the threshhold of the election code of conduct closing in on the state, the BJP thinktank has switched to Plan B. “It has been decided that he will be making daylong tours to different cities of the state and address the office bearers and workers,” the official said. This will address the problem of time constraint  and shall also leave more time with Shah to attend to the partymen in other poll-bound states, the official added.

The party had finalised three places of stay for Amit Shah in Jaipur. Now, with the rollout of the revised plan, the places identified for Shah have been temporarily put on hold. Though, the same can be put to use once the process of ticket distribution and election campaigning begins.

Shah’s visit to Jodhpur is also being seen as a move to make inroads into the constituencies that are aligned with the Congress. During Chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra, there was stone pelting in the Pipad city of Jodhpur. Veteran BJP leader and former Union minister Jaswant Singh’s son and Sheo legislator Manavendra Singh is also on the warpath against the BJP government. In such a situation, Shah will work in the Jodhpur division to unite and strengthen the BJP workers during his one-day visit.

Shah will reach Pali in the morning on September 16. There will be a Shakti Kendra conference. Shah will address the Shakti Kendra Conference in three districts of Jodhpur division Pali, Jalore and Sirohi at Pali.

Shah’s Pit Stops

  • 5,000 Representatives of OBC community to meet Amit shah in Pali  on September 16
  • 4 weeks the time frame within which Shah’s expected to cover ground in 9 districts
  • Oct 5-7 The tentative dates when the election code of conduct is set to be in place
