Interventions of a parliamentary board group has helped the Jaipur Ring Road get clearance from railways. The first phase of the Ring Road project, presently under development, intersects the Jaipur-Delhi railway line near Jagatpura area and a flyover is proposed on the spot to be constructed for facilitating uninterrupted flow of traffic. The intersection lies on the Ring Road stretch connecting Agra Road and Tonk Road and even as construction of the Ring Road is almost complete, a 120-meter span near the railway track remains missing.
“The issue came in consideration of the parliamentary group on a visit to Jaipur and subsequently a clearance has been issued by the railways,” said an official. In its first phase, the 47-kilometer long southern corridor of Ring Road is being developed to link Agra Road and Ajmer Road via Tonk Road. There are two railway intersections on Jaipur-Delhi and Jaipur-Sawai Madhopur route, while three cloverleaf flyovers are proposed on interaction with the three highways.
While the work for cloverleaf flyovers remains pending for land acquisition by JDA, the arrival of railway clearance has come to raise possibilities for commissioning of the first phase. The developing agency has already laid the foundation of the railway over bridges and will now commence to connect them.
The process is likely to impact the operation of trains on the routes due to safety concern and schedule of several trains might be temporarily interrupted. According to officials, nearly 80 per cent of the civil works have been completed for the first phase and are scheduled to be completed by April this year. However, the process might get expedited to complete before the parliamentary elections as it was among the flagship projects of former BJP government at Rajasthan and was taken up by the national highway authority on efforts of Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari.
