Days after a religious procession was attacked in Sikar, another similar incident occurred on Thursday wherein members from a minority community armed with sticks and sharp weapons attacked religious procession in Tonk district causing injuries to a dozen individuals. So fierce was the outrageous mob’s attack that even the cops accompanying the yatra, to ensure proper management, had to flee the place to save their lives. 

The mob torched a car and damaged a roadways bus while manhandling its driver. Accompanied with the officials and additional force, Tonk SP rushed to the spot to contain the situation. Till reports last came in, situation in the town was tense, however, courtesy additional force, things are under control and Prohibitory order under Section 144 of CrPC has been imposed.

On Thursday, a Kanwar Yatra was organised wherein devotees brought water from Bisalpur dam. “The yatra had been held by Bajrang Dal and Shiv Kanwar Yatra Samiti. The yatra started from Gokarneswara Temple at Bisalpur Dam where participants filled water and were headed towards a temple at Malpura town,” police said.

However, as the yatra reached the Todaraisingh Road, members of a minority community started pelting stones on the other group. “As the pelting started, the yatra participants rushed for safety. A few members were manhandled as well, allegedly by men armed with sticks. The yatra was accompanied by half-a-dozen cops in a police jeep and even they fled as the stone pelting intensified. Meanwhile, the news of the incident was passed onto senior officials,” a police official added.

However, the men conducting stone pelting did not stop there and a SUV was set ablaze. “After the SUV, an ambulance was stopped and the driver was manhandled. A roadways bus was also damaged and the driver beaten. Meanwhile, additional police teams reached the spot and immediately orders were issued to disperse the mob.”

Two companies of RAC also reached the spot and aided in resuming law and order in the area. As a result of the clash, a dozen men were injured who were identified as Rakesh, Suresh, Omprakash, Mahesh, Roopchand, Ajay, Raju, Sitaram, Ajay Singh, Narendra, Mukesh Kumar and Hariom. “The injured were rushed to hospital. Additional forces have been deployed to avert a repeat of the incident. Action will be taken,” police said.
