Chief minister Ashok Gehlot met Prime minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday urging the Centre to extend support to the flagship schemes and projects that were reportedly stalled by previous Raje government. Gehlot, in a separate meeting with Union drinking water and sanitation minister, Uma Bharti, raised water related issues and sought financial support for drinking water projects.

Gehlot took up the issue of Barmer oil refinery, MEMU (multiline electrical multiple unit) factory in Bhilwara, broad gauge railway project in Dungerpur-Banswara-Ratlwam among other projects that are in the pipeline in Rajasthan.

Gehlot has sought his intervention so the projects can be expedited. “These projects were conceptualized by CM Gehlot in his earlier stint as CM and were launched during UPA-2 rule,” an official said. The government is now taking them up again, the official added.

Gehlot also discussed issues being faced by farmers in procurement of Moong and sought intervention of the PM. This is Gehlot’s first meeting with the PM after he assumed the charge of the chief minister in state. The meeting of Gehlot comes a day after his counterpart in Madhya Pradesh, Kamal Nath, met PM Modi and discussed issues centric to the state he is heading.

In a separate meeting with Uma Bharti, Gehlot drew her attentions toward water related issue that had surfaced in the desert state. Gehlot said that the union minister, on his request, has approved financial assistance to drinking water projects to the tune of Rs 4,000 crores.

“The union minister has agreed to assist water projects worth Rs 4,000 crore. It includes the Jodhpur Lift canal project phase-3 and Jaipur Bisalpur project, for which the finances will be made available. I also urged the minister to provide Rs 25,111 crore support to ambitious project which envisages to link Brahmani River to Bisalpur Dam,” tweeted Gehlot informing about what Rajasthan got in meeting with Bharati.

Bharti, according to Gehlot, has agreed to release the second instalment of Rs 400 crore under Swachh Bharat Mission (rural). “Also the centre will release Rs 300 crore fund to the state which it is getting on the basis of performance under Swacch Bharat Mission,” said Gehlot. Gehlot also requested Bharti to assist in the execution of Indira Gandhi canal project, Eastern Rajasthan Canal Project and Narmada Canal projects that could solve drinking water issues faced by sizeable population of the state.
