Jaipur: Now, night watchman to ensure city is clean

Under the Swachh Bharat Mission, Jaipur Municipal Corporation(JMC) has started preparing for the Swachh Survekshan (Clean Survey) 2019, which will be conducted next month. To make the city clean and beautiful, the JMC has decided to deploy night watchmen across the city. In each ward, a night watchman will be deployed, who will keep an eye on the people who make the city dirty.

The JMC administration is trying to make Jaipur garbage depot free city. After the start of door-to-door waste collection in the city, the Municipal Corporation had removed half of the city’s garbage depots in last year. The municipal corporation is now trying to remove the remaining garbage depots too. However, even after the removal of garbage depots, people are throwing garbage on the roads and so the Jaipur Municipal Corporation has decided to deploy 91-night watchmen in all the 91 wards of the city. These night watchmen will visit their ward area in the night and take action against those who throw garbage on the road in night. Mayor Ashok Lahoti met the officials of the JMC three days ago and in this meeting, he instructed the officials to deploy night watchmen. Lahoti had instructed the officials to make a zone-wise team and ensure cleanliness in the city.

The JMC has made all its officials in-charge of various wards across the city in an attempt to improve the ranking of Jaipur in the upcoming Swachh Survekshan-2019. In addition to the Deputy Commissioners of eight zones of the municipal corporation, officers of revenue and engineering cell have been given charge of the same.

The survey will take place between January 4 and 31 next year. This time the survey pattern has changed. The Swachh Survekshan-2018 was conducted for 4,000 marks and this time these marks and pattern have changed. This time there will be a survey for 5,000 points in which there will be equal marks for Citizen Feedback, Direct Observation, Service Level Progress and Certification. In the the new survey, the point of separation of wet and dry garbage will be a major part. Apart from this, the points have been fixed for downloading of the Swachhta App of the ministry of housing and urban affairs. Under the survey, 2% of the total number of households residing in the city should download Swachta App on their smartphones.
