The body has decided to put camp at the JMC headquarters to give the last chance to tax defaulters. Outstanding taxes and license fees will be deposited in the camp. After this, the municipal corporation will take strict action against defaulters who did not deposit the amount.

Various hotels and restaurants operating in the city have not yet submitted the license fees and Urban Development (UD) tax. Hotel and restaurant owners are not depositing tax and license fees even after repeated notice served by the civic body. JMC will now organise a three-day camp at JMC headquarters located at Lal Kothi for the convenience of such businessman. This camp will be held from February 18 to 20 and from 10am to 5pm, the license fees of the hotels and restaurants and the UD tax will be deposited. Additionally, the rent of the Dairy booth will also be deposited.

“During the three-day camp, the hotel and restaurant owners will be able to renew their license and deposit the UD tax. New licenses for hotels and restaurants will also be issued at the camp. My appeal is that all the hotels and restaurants owner visit and submit the outstanding UD tax and license fees,” said Naveen Bhardwaj, Deputy Commissioner (Revenue), JMC.

“After the camp, the municipal corporation will initiate action against unauthorized hotels and restaurants in the city,” he warned. According to sources, the JMC will soon organise camps for the marriage gardens too. The civic body will start the campaign for revenue recovery from March 1.

The Recovery

In the current financial year, the municipal corporation has recovered only Rs 27 crore from UD Tax while the UD Tax recovery was fixed at Rs 250 crores in the 2018-19 budget.
