More than 150 health specialists gathered in city for trauma care workshop to discuss and share new medical techniques and its use while dealing with patients admitted in trauma centers. Experts emphasized on importance of trauma center because care and quick response in emergency is crucial for a person brought in the hospital.

“Specialist doctors from different hospital across the country were invited here to share critical trauma care techniques,” Dr Malay Mishra, organizer and in-charge, emergency department at Manipal Hospitals said. “The basic idea behind organising such workshop was to strengthen medical practitioners with knowledge how to handle a patient brought to trauma centers in emergency as it has been observed that number of people, brought in emergency, die because of the staff in the trauma center are not trained proper about trauma care techniques,” he added.

Trauma care involves the provision of appropriate care at a health center to road crash victims with major and minor injuries including minor injuries, are treated by the patients themselves, a general practitioner or the accident and emergency department or major injuries for which a trauma care systems needs to be put in place by every hospital receiving patients with major trauma. In such medical emergencies correct treatment of injuries such as head and neck trauma and adequate follow up care is important to limit pain and prevent adverse consequences.

“In India, trauma-care systems are at a stage of development. We observe huge disparity between trauma services in various parts of the country. Rural areas have inefficient trauma care services because of various reasons including lack of proper health infrastructure, lack of funds, difficult topography,” one of the participant at the workshop said. “There is absence of a national lead agency that coordinate various components of a trauma system. Also, there is no mechanism for accreditation of trauma centers and professionals,” he added.
