Jaipur Development Authority awaits govt nod to regularise 250 colonies

Regularisation process of residential colonies remains on hold as the officials are waiting for directions from the new government. There were more than 250 colonies on the ‘to be regularised’ list of Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) when the process came to a halt following implementation of model code of conduct across the state in October for the Assembly elections.

Regularisation of these colonies is expected to yield around Rs 500 crore for the authority and the JDA had even sought permission from the Election Commission to continue the process even during the Assembly elections. The request though was turned down by the election commission and JDA officials too lost interest on the issue by the time code of conduct was enforced. 

According to JDA officials, the process will commence soon after the new urban development minister assumes office. The authority officials are little apprehensive over dealing with the issue as several of these colonies have also been in center of political attention during the election period.

Among these colonies waiting regularisation most are located in Prithviraj Nagar area. Hundreds of colonies in the area lack basic amenities such as roads and water supply. The area has witnessed several long drawn agitations on the issue and development of these colonies was promised by the Congress. 

However, as the process  gets delays many residents are getting anxious. “The authority has little widow before model code of conduct for parliamentary election gets implemented again, soon after there will be local body elections in the city,” a resident said while expressing his concern. 

The process of regularization has previously remain on hold for more than a year waiting an approval of sector development plans. The hold on regularisation has also reduced revenue generation for the authority and thus further delaying development of facilities in these areas.
