Their digital campaigns didn’t prove to be rewarding during K’taka poll, but the party is leaving no stone unturned now
To take the state Assembly election campaign to a crescendo, Congress has started training guns on the Opposition BJP through various social media platforms. To add more firepower to their digital team, the party president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday appointed four coordinators to operate and supervise the social media cell.
“Vibha Mathur, Vipin Yadav, Vishal Meena and Abhas Bhatnagar have been made coordinators in social media cell,” said a circular undersigned by Divya Spandana, alias Ramya, who is chairperson of AICC social media and digital communications. The coordinators will assist Danish Abrar, son of late former minister Abrar Ahmad, in operation of the social media cell. Abrar is currently working as the state coordinator.
AICC social media cell led by Spandana has been in news for their counter-attack and repartee in dealing with BJP’s social media operations. According to the sources, the cell intends to get all Congress leaders, especially those in the states that are slated to go for polls soon, active on social media, so that the party’s ideology, vision could be spread to a larger audience. Twitter, the party cell believes is a vital tool to engage and influence prospective voters.
“The party has already started its operations to strengthen the social media cell. You can see many RPCC members active on twitter sharing their opinion on state and national issues. The PCC chief Sachin Pilot and AICC general secretary Ashok Gehlot are also active on Twitter and they have a huge following,” said a senior party leader.
One wonders what will be the party’s next move to intensify its campaign! “We will ensure prominent leaders in districts and Assembly constituencies to come on Twitter and also create their Facebook pages. Several senior leaders who are maintaining distance from social media too will be asked to join it. This will help them spread party’s programmes,” said the leader.
It has been also learnt that chairperson of AICC social media and digital communications Spandana in a recent visit to Jaipur gave training to selected leaders on how to use social media effectively to counter the agenda of the saffron party.
