Itawa tense after youth killed by tractor trolley driven by cop

Situation in Itawa town of Kota district was tense as agitated locals demonstrated against the police while blocking road by keeping the body of 24-year-old youth who was on early Thursday morning killed on the spot after he was hit by a tractor trolley loaded with illegal Bajari. 

The trolley was being driven by a police personnel who was driving the vehicle to the police station after it was seized from the river bank.

The family members of the deceased youth and aggressive locals agreed to remove the body from road, by noon, only after long discussion the senior police and administrative officials assured compensation to the kin of the deceased.

On reports of illegal transportation of Bajari from the river bed, the police team on Thursday morning carried out a raid, said Sanjay Royal SHO at Itawa police station. As the police team reached the spot, the illegal transporters fled the spot leaving their stationary tractor trolley loaded with bajari, he said.  

While one of the constables of the team, Dayaram was driving the seized tractor trolley to police station, the tractor trolley collided against a motorbike borne youth identified as Nazziruddin, 24, on Itawa bypass, the  SHO said while adding that the youth was killed on the spot in the mishap.

The wailing family members and aggressive locals, following the mishap raised protest against the police demanding compensation for death and blocked the road by putting the body at the main circle of the town, he said.
Itawa circle DSP Rameshwar Prasad said that senior officers rushed to the spot to convince the aggressive locals with assurance of a fair compensation as prescribed in the provisions. Following this they agreed to take the body for postmortem, he said.

A case of negligent driving under section 279 and 304 [A] of IPC was lodged against the police personnel who was driving the seized tractor trolley and a separate case was lodged against the unidentified illegal Bajari transporter under section of Protection of Illegal Bajri Transportation Act, SHO Sanjay Royal said.  The Itawa police early on Thursday morning, following the mishap, had to rush to the police station to escape from the violent mob that was furious after the youth’s death. The cops had to stay locked up inside the police station until the additional force was sent from Kota. Even the police van that had ventured into the market of the town to control the situation was forced to move back to the police station. The aggressive locals protesting against the police reportedly pelted stones at the van and tried to damage the vehicle with sticks.
