In Jodhpur Ravana gets a Rajasthani makeover

With changing times, Ravana is also getting a makeover. This year in Jodhpur in effigy of Ravana will have a designer look with the 10-headed king will don Jodhpuri achkan (shervani) and silk kurta. Long mustache and a turban on his head will give Ravana a Rajasthani look.

As always, this year, the Dussehra festival will be celebrated in harmony and amicably according to the tradition of Jodhpur on Friday. After the worship of Lord Ram from Mehrangarh fort, the procession will start from Fatehpol and reach Ravana’a chbutara ground by 5.30pm.  At the Mehrangarh fort, erstwhile ruler of Jodhpur Gaj Singh will perform puja at Shri Murli Manohar 12.55pm and at 1.15pm from the fort, Ramchandraji’s ride will depart for Fatehpur.

The administrative officer, mayor and councillor will be present there. Shobha yatra will reach Ravan’s chubutra ground from Aada Bazar, Aik Minar Mosque, Khandaflsa, Jalori Gate Chaurah, Shanhecharji’s Than, 5th Road, 12th Road with various akhaas.

21 Akhalas will be held in Shobha yatra.This time, the effigies of Ravana and his family have been hit by inflation. This time, it has cost Rs 86,000. The fireworks contract has also gone for Rs 65,000. In 2017, Rs 2.61 lakh had been spent on effigy of Ravana and his family members, while on the fireworks, Rs 1.41 lakh was spent, but this time the corporation benefited about  Rs1.5 lakh in mutual pooling of contractual firms. This time, the effigy was just ready for Rs 1.75 lakh . This time, the height of Ravan’s effigy is 60 feet high.
