Soon, branded scotch whiskey will be available at cheaper prices at liquor shops across the state. The state excise department has geared up to slash duty on branded liquor bringing into them in uniformity of taxes applicable in the neighbouring states.
Currently, the duty on branded liquor procured by Rajasthan State Beverages Corporation Limited (RSBCL) is higher compared to the neighboring states like Haryana. Hence, the consumers shell more for branded liquor in Rajasthan. Even consumers in the districts adjoining Haryana buy branded liquor from there to save money. On average, a branded whiskey is sold Rs 1000-Rs 2000 less in Haryana.
It has made the excise department to rethink on current taxation and bringing them in uniformity with applicable in the neighbouring state. Also, there are certain foreign liquor costly brands which five-seven stars bars procure from Delhi with a permit. The excise department is also planning to procure such brands through RSBCL so the state excise department could earn revenue and they could be made available at less price.
“We are considering over slashing duty on costly scotch so it could be made available to the consumers at less prices. Soon, the order will be issued in the regard,” said Harpool Singh Yadav, Jaipur district excise officer (DEO), informing about the development.
When contacted, liquor contractor also stressed that if the duty is slashed then the consumers will get branded scotch at the cheaper prices. “There are certain scotch brands which are available at higher rates in Rajasthan due to a higher duty. If the duty is slashed then the consumers will go for brands which they don’t brave to op due to higher rates,” said Yoonus Khan, a liquor contractor.

Meanwhile, the Jaipur exercise officers have already started exercise to auction country liquor and IMFL shops in the state capital through auction and the applications manually and online both have been invited.
