The second largest city in the state and the hometown of chief minister Ashok Gehlot is reeling under swine flu and has witnessed many deaths in past few weeks.

There are many new suspected patients coming up. In view of this, Hemant Gera, principal secretary medical education, has been camping in Jodhpur since the past two days. 

He visited Mahatma Gandhi Hospital on Friday and took stock of arrangements to deal with swine flu.

So far 14 people have died from swine flu in Jodhpur and this figure is highest in the country. 

“Let me tell you that there have been 19 deaths in Rajasthan. In addition to these, the number of positive patients in Jodhpur has reached over 200 in just 11 days since New Year. This number is highest after Jaipur,” said Gera.

Gera also visited the Mathuradas Mathur Hospital on Thursday and on Friday, he took information about swine flu arrangements from other doctors including the hospital superintendent. 

He also reviewed the stock of medicines on the BPL and DDC counter. Along with this, inspection of free dispensing centre was also done. 

After the inspection of Swine Flu Ward, Gera also held a review meeting in relation to arrangements, to deal with flu, with senior doctors.

The state is on high alert for swine flu after five reported deaths due to the disease in last week, yet fresh cases of H1N1 positive people continue to come in the hospitals. 2018 ended with the 2,375 positive cases and 221 deaths due to swine flu in the state.
