JAIPUR
These flights stayed at the airport for sometime and after the visibility at Delhi Airport improved, they took-off for the national capital. Churu remained the coldest place in plains in Rajasthan on Tuesday where minimum temperature was recorded at one degree
After fog disturbed flight operations at Delhi Airport, three flights were diverted to Jaipur airport on Tuesday morning. Sources informed that three flights which were on way to Delhi were diverted at Jaipur airport. An Indigo flight going from Lucknow to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur airport while an international flight coming from Muscat to Delhi was also diverted to Jaipur airport.
Another international flight of Jazeera Airlines from Kuwait City to Delhi was also diverted to Jaipur.
These flights stayed at the airport for sometime and after the visibility at Delhi Airport improved, these flights took off for Delhi. Fog during the winters delays the flight operations and many times, the flights arriving at Delhi Airport are diverted either to Jaipur airport or Ahmedabad airport.
In fact, there are not many airports across Delhi in vicinity where the flight from Delhi can be diverted. Since Jaipur is equipped with CAT B 3 lights and is near to Delhi, on many occasions flights are diverted to Jaipur. Moreover, the fog has also been absent in Jaipur sky till now and therefore, airport operations here are going on smoothly. During the month of January this year, on many times the flights from Delhi were diverted to Jaipur. Otherwise, flights being diverted to Jaipur from Delhi are a common thing during the December and January month.
Notably, low visibility disrupted flight operations at the Delhi airport and departures were put on hold for two hours in the morning, sources said. Minimum visibility of 125 metres is needed for safe flight operations. Arrivals were not affected as the minimum visibility needed for them is 50 metres. Since it was Christmas and winter holidays, the travel plans of many people were affected by the flight diversion as it caused delays in their travel schedules.
Notably, seven Delhi-bound flights including two international flights diverted to the Jaipur International Airport due to air traffic congestion at national capital Delhi in June last year. All seven flights departed to Delhi after around two hours of halt at Jaipur.
According to Jaipur airport director, due to congestion at Delhi, the flights could not land at the airport in the national capital and they had to take rounds for a long time over Delhi so they were diverted to Jaipur.
