Nagar on Saturday during party workers meeting in Sangod allegedly said that the farmers commit suicide so that they can get the monetary benefits and get their loan waived off.
Farmers’ bodies in Hadouti on Monday demanded public apology or resignation from BJP MLA from Sangod area of Kota district Heera Lal Nagar for allegedly mocking and insulting farmers who the MLA said committed suicide to get their loan waived off. The farmers’ body associated with Congress also burnt the effigy of the MLA in Kota to lodge protect against the insensitive attitude of the MLA towards the plight of farmers.

The MLA Heera Lal Nagar has mocked and insulted farmers with his insensitive statement on farmers’ suicide in Hadouti region, Dulhichand Bordha, a farmers’ union leader in Kota said. MLA Nagar has lost trust of the farmers and he should immediately apologise or should resign from his post, the farmers’ leader said adding that the sensitive issue of farmers’ suicide has been politicised to reap the benefits in the upcoming election. “A meeting of Kisan Sabha has been called in Kota to chalk out next strategy to protest against the politicisation of the issue,” Dulhichand Bordha said. When contacted, Nagar refuted the allegation.
“My statements on farmer’s suicide has been twisted and have been misconstrued,” Nagar said. Nagar further added that he only attempted to clarify farmers that there is no provision of compensation or monetary benefits to the families of those who commit suicide. “I am a farmer myself and I am committed to serve farmers,” Nagar said. He also said that he has written to the government with regard to extension of procurement date of garlic to June 30.
