BJP councillor Dinesh Kanwant caught six members of the gang red-handed, while they were collecting money from the people in Vidhyadhar Nagar.

Three members of the gang are found to be under 18 years of age. After that, the councillor released minors and came to headquarter of Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) with the other three youth. Mayor Ashok Lahoti handed the trio to the police and filed an FIR.

For the last several days, illegal recovery was being done under Swachh Bharat Mission in various wards of the city. In the Sanjay Colony area under Ward 24, the receipt was being cut for Rs 30 per house.

A family, resident of Sanjay Colony informed about this to Ward 9 BJP councillor Dinesh Kanwat as Ward 9 and 24 are interconnected. So Kanwat feared that the gang members would also target Ward 9.

Kanwat, with his colleagues, spread the information about such gang operating in the whole ward area. He told that six gang members arrived to collect money in Vidyadhar Nagar on Friday and he caught all the members.

The accused said that they were cutting the receipt of Rs 30 per family under Swachh Bharat Mission and added that they have been appointed by the Central Government. During the inquiry, it was discovered that there are three minors in the gang. Kanwat released the minors and informed Mayor Ashok Lahoti about the incident, after which the mayor called them to JMC Headquarters.

During the investigation of the documents, all the papers were found to be fake. On this, the mayor called Jyoti Nagar police and handed the three youth to the police, followed by filing an FIR.

The ‘govt of India’ tag

  • Kanwat told that he talked to the young men’s boss who even threatened the councillor and said ‘let us do our work, we are working for central government’. He asked the youth to show government orders, they showed two orders over which the municipal commissioner’s signature was found to be fake.
  • The youth used to visit the houses by putting a badge of Swachh Bharat Mission and collect Rs 30 in the name of giving dustbins. The gang has so far been recovering in Dausa, Chomu, and other cities. The Logo of the municipal corporation and the state government was not on the receipts. There is no phone number and address on the receipt. The tag ‘Government of India’ has printed on the receipt.
