Brain surgery has always been seen as a surgical procedure with the greater risk involved from the patient’s perspective. But the advent of new techniques has made treatment of neuro-related medical complications very easy. Now, in case of brain stroke or aneurysm, it is now being treated with interventional technology as brain surgery is not required anymore.

Neurosurgeons from across the world discussed such new techniques for treatment during Neurofest-2019 in Jaipur. On the last day of the two-day conference, renowned neurosurgeon and professor emeritus of neurosurgery at the Helsinki (Finland) University Hospital Dr Juha Hernesniemi as the chief speaker gave information about the latest technique of treating brain disease with interventional technology with brain enzymes.

Experts in the conference said that in a case when an operation involves greater risk, the treatment can be done with interventional technology. If the patient gets a brain stroke, then the blockage can be removed from the intervention technology. Prior to this technique, the patient was used to given medicine leaving an effect on the whole body, but now the patient’s blockage can be corrected by reaching directly into the affected area.

Dr KK Bansal, conference course director and senior neurosurgeon at Narayana Hospital told that during different sessions, experts from across the country discussed the cases they came across during their medical carrier. “Sharing the experience was really beneficial for all of them as they gave a presentation about the course of treatment given by them in each case and learn the alternate advance method of treatment in the same case by veteran experts like Dr Juha,” said Dr Bansal.

Dr Komal Prasad from Bangalore told that brain surgery has become much easier and risks have been abated since coming out with new technology and equipment. Brain surgery can now be done with equipment such as the operative microscope, navigation, doppler.
