The foundation stone of the new central library of Rajasthan University was laid by governor Kalyan Singh around two years ago, on July 7, 2016.

However, the pace of construction work has slowed down with time and it has not been completed yet and around 20% works are still pending. When the foundation stone of the new Central Library was laid, it was decided that it will be constructed within a year.

The estimated cost of building this new library kept on increasing.

The cost was estimated to be Rs 11.87 crore, but it has now crossed over Rs 15 crore and now to complete the work, around Rs 5 crore more will be needed.

The amount to be provided by the UGC is still awaited, which can further delay the inauguration of the library.

Speaking on the matter, Vice-Chancellor Rajasthan University RK Kothari said, “The amount of Rs 5 crores was to be received from the Universities with Potential for Excellence (UPE), and the team also visited between November 27 and 29, 2017 for the same. The budget was approved but the delay of eight months has taken place due to the absence of UGC Chairman.”

Kothari added, “If the money is not received from the UGC, then the furniture work of the library will be done by using Rs 5 crore from the University budget. The work will take time of up to six months more. Also, for the work to be done outside the library, a budget of Rs 1.09 crores has been received from Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), so the outside work will be completed soon.”

The University of Rajasthan tends to remain in headlines due to its sloppy work.

This is the reason that the ranking of the University has been constantly dropping in the list of world’s top universities, said sources.

Slow Pace

The cost was estimated to be Rs 11.87 crore, but it has now crossed over Rs15 crore and now to complete the work, around Rs 5 crore more will be needed. The amount to be provided by the UGC is still awaited, which can further delay the inauguration of the library.
