PCC chief and deputy CM Sachin Pilot’s recent  statement on not seeking Lok Sabha tickets for his kin seems to have dropped a bomb on the senior leaders who are vying for tickets for their relatives.

There are over half-a-dozen senior leaders who have shown interest to get Lok Sabha tickets for their relatives. There is a buzz in the inner circles of Congress that Vaibhav Gehlot, son of CM Ashok Gehlot, can also make a debut in the Lok Sabha elections. He could be fielded from Jalore-Sirohi or his home town, Jodhpur.

Apart from this, UDH minister Shanti Dhariwal’s daughter-in- law Ekta Dhariwal is seeking a ticket from Kota-Bundi seat, a prestigious seat of Hadoti region. If she gets a ticket then it will be her debut in LS elections.

Similarly in the neighboring Jhalwar-Baran seat Urmila Jain Bhaya is one of the prime candidates. She is wife of mines minister Pramod Jain Bhaya. Urmila had contested the seat in 2014 and lost badly to sitting MP Dushyant Singh, who is son of ex-CM Vasundhara Raje.

Both Urmila and Ekta belong to the Vaishya community and it is almost difficult as per caste equitation to accommodate the Vaishya community aspirants, even from the same region.

From Marwar and Shekhawati too there are many senior Congress leaders who are batting for their sons and wives for tickets.

These include Kuldeep Indora, son of ex-minister Heera Lal Indora from Ganganagar, Rajbala Ola wife of sitting MLA Brijendra Ola MLA (son of Sheeshram Ola) from Jhunjunu, Sunita Choudhary Nagaur Zila Pramuk and wife of sitting MLA and deputy chief whip Mahendra Choudhary from Nagaur are chief aspirants of LS tickets. Ex-MP Badri Jakhar is also seeking ticket for his daughter Munni Devi Godara from Pali.

Son Rise In Politics

  • Many Congress leaders have started using all ‘sources’ available to get tickets for their kin and many names are likely to be included in the panels which shall be scrutinised by party’s screening panel.
  • The top contenders for LS ticket are said to be Ashok Gehlot’s son Vaibhav, Shanti Dhariwal’s daughter-in-law Ekta,  Pramod Jain Bhaya’s wife Urmila, Brijendra Ola’s wife Rajbala among others.
