By 2020, heart patients will double: Raghu Sharma

As the heart disease patients are increasing in the country and the state, the Rajasthan government is now mulling to arrange facilities for proper treatment at the Primary Health Centers (PHCs) and Community Health Centers (CHCs). This information was given by health minister Dr Raghu Sharma on Saturday at the inaugural function of the International Heart Conference here in Jaipur. The conference is being organised by India branch of International Society for Heart Research (ISHR), in association with Rajasthan University of Health Sciences (RUHS).

Dr Raghu Sharma said that 29 per cent deaths in the world occur due to heart diseases. “In India, 20 per cent of people suffer from any kind of heart disease and by 2020, this number will double. The government is trying its best to put a check on it, but people have to make changes in their lifestyle. The State Government intends that efforts should be made to provide heart disease treatment to PHCs and CHCs for which efforts will be made soon,” said Dr Sharma.

He also informed that the government is in process to come up with the provisions for ‘Right to Health’ so that every person can get the best treatment facility in the state.

Dr Vinod K Pal, Chairman of MCI was also present as the chief guest in the program. Conference convener Dr Shashi Mohan Sharma said that new research techniques with new research work in heart-related treatment are being discussed in the conference.

“More than 500 senior cardiologists from India and abroad are participating in the conference and it will prove to be beneficial for new doctors coming in the field of cardiology,” organising secretary Dr Sunil Kumar Jain said.
