279 tubewells for daily supply to Jaipur

With no respite expected soon from Bisalpur Dam in coming months, PHED department has decided to dig 279 new tube wells to provide drinking water to Jaipur. Sources informed that the process in files has already been initiated and the approval from the department of finance has also been taken for this. Now, formal administrative approval is needed and after that, the digging for the tubewells will be started in the city.

The department had reduced the water supply from 44 crore liters daily to 35 crore liters daily since the last week of August this year. This was done due to the low inflow of water into the dam due to less rainfall this season. The rest of the water supply is made by tubewells.

However, since in most of the areas of the city the water level is down and under the dark zone, the places in the city where the water level is high will be chosen for digging new tubewells, informed the sources.

For this, areas near the Dravyavati river flows in the city will be preferred to dig these new tubewells. Sources informed that at these places, water recharge is done and therefore the water table at these places like Mansarovar will be higher than other places. Apart from these tubewells, the city’s large part is already being supplied water through tubewells. At present, water from 223 tubewells is being supplied to various parts of the city which is giving additional 38 MLD water to the consumers. The plight of the water supply in the city is seen in the winter season when the supply was never a topic of discussion in PHED city circle and plans were always made for the summer months.
