Tomorrow we’ve got to make sure we’re better: Rohit

While the Mumbai Indians may be on wrong side as far as the head to head this season with Rising Pune Supergiant go, its skipper Rohit Sharma isn’t really dwelling on the past ahead of the big IPL final in Hyderabad on Sunday.

The Rohit Sharma-led outfit has lost all their last three games this season to Pune including the Qualifier 1 at the Wankhede last week.

“It’s like Mahela said, we haven’t had a great history against Pune. They have been playing some really good cricket and it’s just that we haven’t been playing too well on those days. That’s the reason we lost the game."

“Tomorrow we’ve got to make sure we’re better and we play good cricket and focus on what we need to do. If all those things are looked after results will take care of themselves. It’s all about processes,” Sharma told the media persons at the pre-match press conference of the IPL final in a Hyderabad hotel on Saturday night.

“Well, first of all, we needed to make sure that we got that monkey off our back. To start with that’s something that we addressed. The first game was against Pune and they gave us a wake-up call. We realised that we had to play better cricket than that. Yeah, we got a little bit of momentum, we won some close matches. Made sure we kept going and again they gave us a wake-up call in the middle of the season,” MI coach Mahela Jayawardene added.

Meanwhile, a confident RPS skipper Steve Smith chose to be modest with the result instead of boasting about the past. “Yeah, obviously, we can take a little bit of confidence from that. But in the end finals cricket is finals cricket. It comes down to who plays best on that day. I think both our teams have played some really good cricket to get this far of the tournament. I am sure the game tomorrow is not going to be an easy one,” said Smith. 

Rohit said he learnt a lot from his experienced coach Jayawardene.
