Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah will be the two key players upon which Mumbai Indians’ success for IPL 2020 will be built. Rohit Sharma has been acknowledged as the best captain and opener in limited overs cricket, so much so that Ricky Ponting named him as ‘Mumbai Indians’ dangerman’ for the season. “Rohit Sharma, their captain. One of the premier T20 batsmen in the world. He has got an outstanding record whether it be international cricket or in IPL,” said Ponting when he was asked to name Mumbai Indians’ most dangerous payer by Cricket Australia. Jasprit Bumrah has been the ultimate success story for India in the last couple of years.

However, both Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah were involved in a Twitter banter that left many people in splits. In a video uploaded by Rohit Sharma which involved gully cricket memories, Jasprit Bumrah bowls a fast under-arm ball which dismisses the batsman. The batsman wryly remarks ‘fast’ and Bumrah is taken off the attack. One of the players tells him that he cannot bowl fast and that is why it is a ‘baby over’, a colloquial term in gully cricket which means only half an over can be bowled.

To this, Rohit captioned, “@Jaspritbumrah93, Half over mein retired hurt?! #YahanSabSameHai #YeApnaGameHai #Dream11IPL”. To this, Bumrah replied on a video that had Rohit opening the batting. The Mumbai Indians skipper gets ready to bat and one player is flummoxed. He asks, “What are you doing?” To this, Rohit replies, “Getting ready to open.” The player asks, “Whose bat is this?” Rohit says, “Yours.” After that, the player says that he will open and asks Rohit to field. To this, Bumrah captioned, “.@ImRo45 bhai, agli baar khudki bat leke aana! Warna batsman se phantom!”

Mumbai Indians strong

Mumbai Indians arrive in IPL 2020 as the four-time champions. The tournament will be played entirely in the UAE due to the coronavirus situation in India. Rohit Sharma and his side are confident that they can overcome their ‘odd’ weakness and win the title in an even year. However, the Mumbai Indians will be desperate to break their duck in the UAE. In 2014, the IPL campaign was held in two halves due to the General Elections. The first half was in the UAE and it was a total nightmare for the Mumbai Indians. In the second half which was held in India, they somehow managed to reach the knockouts but it was dramatic.
