It has finally come from the horses mouth. MS Dhoni is NOT retiring from the IPL. It is confirmed. After Chennai Super Kings won the toss and chose to bowl against Kings XI Punjab at the Sheikh Zayed stadium in Abu Dhabi, former cricketer and commentator Danny Morrison asked MS Dhoni whether it was his last game. To this, MS Dhoni clearly said in just two words, “Definitely not.” In IPL 2020, after every game, MS Dhoni has been giving away his jerseys to players and has been seen interacting with them on a regular basis. The handing out of jerseys made social media speculate that perhaps Dhoni was going to retire even from the IPL.

Earlier, Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan emphasized that MS Dhoni was going to be part of the Chennai Super Kings team for IPL 2021 and said that he would not retire after the end of this tournament. With this latest development, all retirement rumours can be put to rest as Chennai Super Kings aim to recover and rebuild the team for the next season which could begin in April 2021 provided that the coronavirus situation in India improves.

Bad season for Chennai Super Kings

IPL 2020 has been a miserable season for Chennai Super Kings. Their preparation was thrown out of gear due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in their squad and they were also dealt a body blow with the withdrawals of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh from the side before the eve of the tournament. After starting off with a win against Mumbai Indians, things went horribly wrong for Chennai Super Kings.

Their lack of intent and their struggles in finishing games hurt them big time as they stumbled to some big losses. Their 10-wicket loss to Mumbai Indians effectively sealed their fate and they were mathematically ruled out of playoff contention when Rajasthan Royals won against Mumbai Indians.

In the last two games, Chennai Super Kings have put on a greater show as they defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders to stall their playoff push. If they beat Kings XI Punjab on Sunday, they would have eliminated them from the playoff race as well.
