Mayank Agarwal had seen everything unfold in front of him during the IPL 2020 match between Delhi Capitals and Kings XI Punjab in Dubai. Marcus Stoinis’ assault in the death overs resulted in Delhi Capitals managing to smash 57 runs in three overs. In the chase, Kings XI Punjab were reduced to 55/5 in 10 overs. Agarwal tried to build a partnership with Krishnappa Gowtham but once he fell, Kings XI Punjab were 101/6 with the asking rate of over 10.

Agarwal, batting on 38 from 39 balls, changed gears and blasted his next 51 runs off 21 balls as Kings XI Punjab almost pulled off the run-chase. Agarwal hit two sixes off Mohit Sharma and two fours of Kagiso Rabada to signal his intentions. In the final over, Agarwal hit a six and benefited from a drop by Shreyas Iyer which resulted in a boundary. However, he holed out when Kings XI Punjab needed one run off two balls and when Chris Jordan departed the next ball, the match went into the Super Over in which they lost.

Speaking after the end of the match, Agarwal expressed his disappointment. “The way we came back was fantastic, the way we bowled with the new ball was terrific. It really hurts to not close off the game from the situation we were in... feels terrible. we should have finished the game when we needed one run. This is just the first game... we can get things rolling again, let's see how we will go in the coming games. I think to play a game like that first up was fantastic,” Agarwal said.

Heartbreak for Kings XI Punjab

The two wickets by Stoinis forced the match to go into the Super Over and Kings XI Punjab raised a few eyebrows when they did not pick Mayank Agarwal as one of the batsman along with KL Rahul. Kagiso Rabada was in fine form and he got the wickets of Rahul and Nicholas Pooran as Kings XI Punjab were bowled out for 2, the lowest Super Over total in the history of the IPL.

Delhi Capitals chased down the total with no fuss as Mohammed Shami could not defend three runs.
