Kings XI Punjab had a roller-coaster run in IPL 2020 with some magnificent performances apart from some heartbreaking losses. KL Rahul’s team finished sixth in the points table but they were in the fray for the playoff spot until the very last game. However, they lost to MS Dhoni’s side and they were knocked out of the playoffs. The main reason for Kings XI Punjab’s defeat was attributed to the bowling. Apart from Mohammed Shami and Ravi Bishnoi, there was lack of support and depth in the bowling. Now, ahead of IPL 2021, there is an SOS call being made to one of the Australian pacers who is making a comeback.
Mitchell Starc has been slated to make a comeback in the Big Bash League after a couple of years and it was recently announced by Cricket Australia. Now, Wasim Jaffer, the batting coach of IPL team KXIP, shared the tweet on his personal account and extended an invite to Starc asking him to play with the Punjab side. He used a popular meme from the hit Amazon Prime show Mirzapur that says the words: “Humko Join Karlo” which translates to “Join us”. Jaffer tagged Kings XI Punjab in the tweet and added a hashtag of IPL 2021.

Starc back in action
Mitchell Starc has not featured in the Indian Premier League for a couple of years. In IPL 2018, he was picked by the Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 9.4 crore but he could not play a game due to a stress fracture on his foot. In IPL 2019, he did not make himself available for the IPL while in IPL 2020, he chose to skip the tournament.
Starc last played in the IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore and he emerged as the leading wicket-taker in that edition in IPL 2015 for the franchise. Starc last played for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League and he achieved a fair bit of success.
Kings XI Punjab will be determined to overcome their failures in IPL 2020 in which they lost a match in the Super Over to Delhi Capitals and were undone by a miraculous exhibition of batting from Rahul Tewatia in the game against Rajasthan Royals.
