Kieron Pollard is a vital member of the Mumbai Indians team ever since he started playing in the IPL. For over a decade, Kieron Pollard has been the go-to man for the four-time IPL champions and he has played a vital part in each of their title wins. In IPL 2020, when Rohit Sharma was injured, Kieron Pollard stepped up and captained Mumbai Indians to victory. Despite losing their last league game against Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 wickets, they still topped the group and sailed into the playoffs. However, recently, Kieron Pollard has shared a message on Instagram that has left fans confused and has led to speculations of a ‘rift’ either between him and Rohit Sharma or with West Indies skipper Jason Holder.
On his official Instagram handle, Kieron Pollard wrote, “I'd rather have an enemy who admits they hate me, instead of a friend who secretly puts me down.” This led to intense speculation from fans on social media. Many fans pointed out an instance of when Rohit Sharma was angry at Kieron Pollard during the ODI series between India and West Indies in 2019 while others said it was his relationship with Jason Holder under whom he has not played many games for the Windies.
Whatever may be the cryptic nature of the message, it was not evident in Qualifier 1 when Mumbai Indians decimated Delhi Capitals by 57 runs to sail into the IPL final for the sixth time. Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan smashed fifties while Hardik Pandya blasted five sixes in his 14-ball 37 as Mumbai Indians blasted 55 runs in the last three overs to reach 200. Jasprit Bumrah took 4/14, his best figures in the IPL as Delhi Capitals were restricted to 143.
During the match, Kieron Pollard was seen talking to the bowlers which indicated that there was no signs of any discord in the Mumbai Indians. After the match, skipper Rohit Sharma said this was a perfect game for the side. “Perfect result for us. We never had a target in mind. We are a different team and we play differently,” Rohit Sharma said.
Mumbai Indians will now await the winner of Qualifier 2 in the IPL 2020 final that will be played on November 10 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
