Not just the players, IPL coaches take home ridiculous amounts of money too.
While it's common knowledge that cricketers playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) earn a hell of a lot of money, not many must be aware that even coaches involved in the T20 extravaganza rake in a ridiculous amount of moolah.
English all-rounder Ben Stokes caused quite a storm after he was picked up by Rising Pune Supergiant for a whopping Rs 14.5 crore in the IPL 2017 auctions. But as it turns out, it isn't just the men sweating it out on the field that enjoy hefty pay cheques, even their coaches take home staggering amounts of money.
According to a report in The Times of India, former Indian captain Rahul Dravid gets Rs 4.5 crore per year for his role as head coach of the Delhi Daredevils. This is roughly the amount Ricky Ponting got during his stint with the Mumbai Indians two years ago.
While Dravid leads the pack, here are estimates of how much some of the other coaches in the IPL make:
Daniel Vettori (Royal Challengers Bangalore): Rs 3.5 crore
Jacques Kallis (Kolkata Knight Riders): Rs 3.5 crore
Virender Sehwag (Kings XI Punjab): Rs 2.3 to 3 crore
Mahela Jayawardene (Mumbai Indians): Rs 2.3 to 3 crore
Tom Moody (Sunrisers Hyderabad): Rs 2.3 to 3 crore
Stephen Fleming (Pune Rising Supergiant): Rs 2.3 to 3 crore
Sachin Tendulkar, apparently, rakes in more than all the aforementioned players. What's most surprising is the fact that he doesn't even coach the Mumbai Indians. The Master Blaster is just the team mentor, who doesn't even travel with the team and is present only in the home matches.
