The defending champions Mumbai Indians will be taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening encounter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 season. The five-time champions have had a wood over their Friday's opponents overall and in the last five encounters as well, but a new season and with some new faces in the side, the Virat Kohli-led side will be hoping to start their campaign on a winning note.

Head-to-head: 27 games, MI have won 17, RCB 10

The Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bangalore have faced each other 27 times in the 13 seasons of the IPL since 2008 and the men in blue have had the upper hand with 17 wins with a winning percentage of 63, while the RCB have won only 10 out of those 27 encounters.

In the last year's IPL, both the teams won one apiece as the first game went right down the wire, going to the super over with RCB prevailing in the end as both teams were on the exact same score at the end of the 40 overs of the main game. In the second game, however, a Suryakumar Yadav special derailed the Bangalore team as the Mumbai Indians chased down a 165-run total with ease despite losing five wickets.

Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers lead the most runs list

RCB skipper Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter in the MI vs RCB games, scoring 695 runs as he is the only player playing for the RCB since the inception of the league. AB de Villiers, who joined the RCB in 2011 is not far behind his teammate scoring 634 runs.

Harbhajan Singh the leading wicket-taker

Ex-Mumbai Indians spinner Harbhajan Singh is the leading wicket-taker in MI vs RCB games taking 22 wickets. While Yuzvendra Chahal and Jasprit Bumrah are next on the list with 19 wickets.
