Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Deepak Chahar recently revealed that he received a peculiar response from skipper MS Dhoni when he questioned him why he is never picked to bowl in the death overs. Chahar is one of the key members of the CSK bowling unit who is set to play a huge rule in the IPL 2020 campaign as well.

"When I was playing for Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS), and even now at CSK, I was bowling at around 140 kph but still he (Dhoni) didn’t give me the ball in the death," Chahar said in a video over on Aakash Chopra's YouTube channel.

Dhoni has been using Chahar's abilities in the opening section of the inning which left the Indian pacer wondering why he is used as a specialist in the opening overs only.

"I also asked Mahi bhai about this. He gave me a two-word answer and then I couldn’t say much. So I asked the bowling coach a couple of times, he also said I should be bowled in the death overs."

"Finally, I gathered some courage and asked Mahi bhai when he was sitting in a room. He said, ‘I groom players’ and that’s it. He didn’t say anything else," Chahar added.

The IPL 2020 will be played from September 19 to November 10 in the UAE across three venues -- Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.

Ahead of Saturday's kick-off, Mumbai Indians hold the edge over Chennai Super Kings, having won three out of their four IPL titles by beating the Chennai Super Kings in 2013, 2015 and 2019.

In their last encounter in 2019, Mumbai Indians won the match by one run in the final in Hyderabad when Lasith Malinga bowled a perfect slower ball to deceive Shardul Thakur.

In the build-up to IPL 2020, Chennai Super Kings have been jolted by the withdrawals of Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh while 13 members of their entourage tested positive for the coronavirus.

For Mumbai Indians, apart from missing Lasith Malinga, the rest of the build-up has been smooth.
