Today's clash between Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) was a fight between bowlers in which the former side proved lethal as they won by 10 runs.

Opting to bat first, KKR's Rahul Tripathi delivered an enthralling performance to help KKR reach a total of 167 runs. Tripathi played a knock of 81 runs as he helped his side post a respectable target for the MS Dhoni-led side.

KKR witnessed a good start as openers Tripathi and Shubman Gill struck regular boundaries. The duo formed a 37-run partnership before Shardul Thakur got hold of Gill (11) in the fifth over.

Nitish Rana then came out to bat but only managed to score nine runs before being dismissed by Karn Sharma. In his next over, Sharma removed Sunil Narine as well, reducing KKR to 98/3 after the completion of 11 overs.

Tripathi, who completed his half-century, was then joined by Eoin Morgan on the field. However, Morgan too failed to impress as he was caught behind in the 14th over, bowled by Sam Curran.

The fall of wickets did not stop as Andre Russell too was sent back to the pavilion after being caught behind off Thakur`s delivery in the 16th over. In the next over, Dwayne Bravo handed CSK with the much-needed breakthrough as he took the wicket of Tripathi.

KKR lost three wickets in the final over and were all out on 167 runs. For CSK, Curran, Thakur and Sharma all picked two wickets each while Bravo clinched three in the match.

In the second innings, KKR seemed determined as Chennai were 90/1 after losing Faf du Plessis for 17 runs. However, bossing the chase at the halfway mark were Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu who looked fluent at the crease.

But they suffered an incredible slowdown after losing the two of them in back-to-back overs. While Rayudu departed for 30, Watson reached his half-century but could not get more as Narine sent him off.

While CSK hopes relied on MS Dhoni and Sam Curran who were at the crease, the KKR bowlers proved to out shun them as the Chennai skipper was clean bowled by Chakravarthy for only 11.

Curran then followed as Russell ends his cameo with 17 runs.

Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja were at the crease but could not do much as KKR's spin duo of Narine and Chakravarthy did not leak many runs.

Narine only came into bowl in the 12th over and found his mojo back, while Chakravarthy's variations proved incredibly hard to score off.

As for their next clashes, KKR and CSK will be part of the Saturday's doubleheader where they will face Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on October 10 respectively.
