Delhi Capitals have reached the final of the Indian Premier League for the first time and standing in their title path in four-time champions Mumbai Indians.
Delhi Capitals have created history in IPL 2020 as they entered the final of the tournament for the first time in their franchise career. Delhi Capitals overcame a spirited performance from Sunrisers Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 to go one better than IPL 2019, where they were knocked out at the same stage by Chennai Super Kings. Delhi Capitals would be aiming to break their jinx of never having won the IPL title but it will not be an easy task as four-time champions Mumbai Indians have been formidable. Rohit Sharma's side have the big-game experience and they will be aiming to make it four-out-of-four against Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. Ahead of the final, here is Delhi Capitals' road to the final.
Match 1: Defeated Kings XI Punjab in Super Over
Marcus Stoinis produced a magnificent performance as he smashed a 20-ball fifty and then took two wickets in the final two balls of the match to drag it into the Super Over. Kings XI Punjab were blown away by Kagiso Rabada and they registered a thrilling win.
Match 2: Defeated Chennai Super Kings by 44 runs
A splendid exhibition of death overs bowling by Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada helped Delhi Capitals keep MS Dhoni and his attacking instinct at bay as they notched up a crucial win.
Match 3: Lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 15 runs
Rashid Khan was the star with 3/14 and he was given good support by the other Sunrisers Hyderabad bowlers as Delhi Capitals failed to chase down 163 with no one going to get a big score.
Match 4: Defeated Kolkata Knight Riders by 18 runs
In a high-scoring thriller in Sharjah, Delhi Capitals were boosted by a brilliant 88 off 38 balls by Shreyas Iyer as they notched up the highest total in IPL 2020. Eoin Morgan and Rahul Tripathi tried to pull off a miracle but Marcus Stoinis and Kagiso Rabada held their nerve to seal a tense win.
Match 5: Defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by 59 runs
Marcus Stoinis and Kagiso Rabada combined together for another fantastic performance as Royal Challengers Bangalore were blown away. Rabada took 4/24 and Stoinis hit 53 off 24 balls to give Delhi Capitals another big win.
Match 6: Defeated Rajasthan Royals by 46 runs
Shimron Hetmyer was in fine form as he blasted five sixes but it was the pace of Anrich Nortje that blew Rajasthan Royals away. His 156.2 kmph thunderbolt to knock Jos Buttler over was class and Rajasthan Royals never recovered.
Match 7: Lost to Mumbai Indians by five wickets
Shikhar Dhawan hit a solid knock but fifties from Suryakumar Yadav and Quinton de Kock helped Mumbai Indians cross the line on a slightly sluggish pitch in Dubai.
Match 8: Defeated Rajasthan Royals by 13 runs
Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer hit fifties and a spirited all-round bowling performance saw Delhi Capitals emerge victors and come one step closer to sealing the playoff spot.
Match 9: Defeated Chennai Super Kings by five wickets
Ravindra Jadeja and Ambati Rayudu hit aggressive knocks to boost Chennai Super Kings to 179/4. However, Shikhar Dhawan ended 13 years of a jinx with a brilliant century and Axar Patel hit sixes in the last over as Delhi Capitals secured their first double against Chennai Super Kings in IPL.
Match 10: Lost to Kings XI Punjab by five wickets
Shikhar Dhawan hit another century to double his tally of tons but Nicholas Pooran's aggressive fifty meant Kings XI Punjab easily chased the total down.
Match 11: Lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 59 runs
Nitish Rana's 81 and Sunil Narine's brilliant 64 off 32 balls helped Kolkata Knight Riders reach 194/6. Varun Chakravarthy picked up his maiden five-wicket haul to end with 5/20 as Delhi Capitals were in the middle of a slump.
Match 12: Lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad by 88 runs
David Warner's fifty on his birthday combined with 87 from Wriddhiman Saha helped Sunrisers Hyderabad cross 200. Rashid Khan yet again put on a great show as Sunrisers Hyderabad dented Delhi Capitals' NRR in a big way.
Match 13: Lost to Mumbai Indians by nine wickets
A total decimation by the four-time champions. Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult took three wickets apiece and Ishan Kishan hit a fifty as Mumbai Indians achieved a big win.
Match 14: Defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets
Royal Challengers Bangalore were restricted by the discipline of Delhi Capitals' bowlers and it needed a superb fifty from Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane to ensure Delhi Capitals sealed their spot in the playoffs.
Qualifier 1: Lost to Mumbai Indians by 57 runs
Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan both hit fifties but Hardik Pandya blasted 37 off 14 balls as Mumbai Indians reached 200. Jasprit Bumrah took his career-best haul of 4/14 as Mumbai Indians achieved a hat-trick of win against Delhi Capitals.
Qualifier 2: Beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 17 runs
Shikhar Dhawan blasted 78 while Shimron Hetmyer hammered 42 off 22 balls to help Delhi Capitals reach a fantastic score. Kane Williamson smashed 67 and kept Sunrisers Hyderabad in the hunt but Kagiso Rabada took 4/29 and sealed the contest as Delhi Capitals entered the final for the first time.
