IPL 2020 – Curran vs Curran: Tom rues missed chance against Sam in RR vs CSK clash
The IPL 2020 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah saw two brothers on the opposite end of the fence and it was a battle that had mixed results.
When Tom Curran faced up to his younger brother Sam in the IPL 2020 clash between Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings in Sharjah, it was a much-anticipated one. For the first time, the Curran brothers, on opposite ends were going to square off on the biggest stage of cricket. Curran vs Curran was going to be the flavor in the death overs, with Sam having taken three wickets. After getting a single of the first ball, Tom squeezed a yorker from Sam to the third man fence. The fourth ball was a couple and on the fifth, Sam tried a bouncer and Curran bunted it to midwicket.
Speaking after the end of the match, Tom said he rued the chance to hit his younger brother Sam out of the ground. “I'd have liked to put him into the stands for a couple, to be honest! The last ball I faced, he tried to bounce me actually, which was surprising because he had square leg up. I wish I'd stood still because I reckon that was my chance to put him into the stands. But he was getting his yorkers in, so I tried to put him off and walk down the wicket. It was good fun. We definitely had a laugh about it,” Tom told ESPNCricinfo.
Rajasthan Royals snatch victory
The onslaught by Jofra Archer in the final over, in which he smashed four consecutive sixes off Lungi Ngidi, proved to be the major difference as Rajasthan Royals won by 16 runs. Sanju Samson was the star earlier with 74 runs which included nine sixes. In response, Faf du Plessis hit 72 and although the late hits from Dhoni came much after the game was out of their reach, he still smoked Tom Curran for three sixes.
Tom said he needed to keep his variations in check if he had to succeed in the tournament due to the huge amount of dew. “As the tournament goes on, it'll be about practising with a wet ball and just trying to make the best out of a bad situation. Concentrate on the next ball and try and limit those big, big overs because there's going to be boundaries, there's going to be a lot of sixes. It's about limiting those, I guess,” Tom said.
