The IPL 2020 has been played after a delay of six months due to the coronavirus pandemic. During the lockdown enforced due to COVID19, none of the Indian players or most of the world players could get any sort of cricketing practice for three-four months and it has told on their fitness. There have been some instances of players not able to carry on either because they were unfit or injured due to the lack of practice due to the coronavirus lockdown. Here are some of the names who have been injured in the first week of the IPL.

1. R Ashwin injury

Ravichandran Ashwin had not played any cricket ever since the Test in New Zealand in March. Due to the coronavirus lockdown in India, he could not get any form of cricket activity outdoors. Ashwin did have some sessions in the gym and he was geared up for IPL 2020, his first major cricket tournament after six months. Ashwin took two wickets in his first over but in trying to stop a ball, he injured himself by landing awkwardly on his shoulder and he left the field in pain. Although he might be fit for the upcoming game, the lack of fitness for many of the teams for IPL 2020 might be an issue as the tournament progresses. (Image credit: Twitter)

2. Ambati Rayudu IPL

Ambatu Rayudu had not played any form of cricket ever since been ignored for the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup. He retired from cricket in a huff but reconsidered the decision. The coronavirus lockdown meant no cricket activity of any kind for Rayudu for close to a year. Although he starred in the game between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians in which he smashed 71, Rayudu was ruled out of the game against Rajasthan Royals due to a hamstring niggle. He might not be available for the next game even. At age 35, Rayudu is not getting any younger and his injury woes due to lack of fitness in the coronavirus lockdown might hurt CSK. Dwayne Bravo also did not have too much of cricket due to the coronavirus situation in Trinidad and Tobago. Bravo had anyway retired from ODIs and Tests but continued to play in T20Is. In the CPL 2020, Bravo went past 500 T20 wickets but did not bowl much. In the final, Bravo did not bowl due to a knee injury and this has also ruled him out for close to three-four games even in the IPL. (Image credit: Twitter)

4. Rohit Sharma Mumbai Indians

Rohit Sharma might be a controversial choice in this list but in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, he was struggling. Rohit has not played any form of cricket ever since his tour of New Zealand ended with a hamstring injury in February 2020. The coronavirus lockdown ensured that no cricket of any kind could be played. During his knock of 80 in extremely stifling conditions in Abu Dhabi, Rohit Sharma clearly suffered and he was tired enough to not take the twos and threes aggressively. Things did not get any better for Rohit as he was hit by a throw on his foot which required medical attention from the physio. The lack of fitness due to the coronavirus lockdown has indeed shown. 5. Mitchell Marsh

Mitchell Marsh had played in the limited overs series against England and it was his first international outing ever since March following the aborted end to the game against New Zealand. Marsh arrived in the UAE with the Sunrisers Hyderabad but he injured his ankle and could not put any weight on it. While he bowled only four balls, he was dismissed for 0 and his tournament came to an end due to the severity of the ankle injury. The coronavirus lockdown in Australia has also played a part in Marsh not getting to full fitness. (Image credit: Twitter)
