Mumbai Student Romeer Secures Admission to University of Southern California

Romeer Rao, a vibrant and inquisitive student from Mumbai, was accepted to the University of Southern California (USC) after successfully navigating the extremely competitive US college admissions process. He developed a distinct viewpoint and an outstanding dedication to academic and community involvement during his voyage, which was characterised by frequent international travel through Hong Kong, the USA, the Middle East, and India. Romeer saw the moves as priceless chances to fully immerse himself in various cultures and groups, even though they offered scholastic challenges.

Romeer’s comprehensive application, which showcased strong grades, significant research output, community service, and student journalism, secured him multiple offers from top-tier institutions, including the University of Wisconsin-Madison, University College London, and the University of St Andrews. Ultimately, Romeer plans to attend USC, where he will pursue a challenging dual bachelor’s degree in Economics and Mathematics.

A student of Oberoi International School, Mumbai, Romeer attributes his academic discipline to the rigorous curriculum. "The IB curriculum challenged me to think critically, question assumptions, and engage in deeper inquiry," Romeer explained.

A key feature of Romeer's academic profile is his deep commitment to economic research. Driven by his passion for the field, he authored and published two research papers in respected international journals. His first paper, which analyzed calendar anomalies like the January Effect on share prices, was published in iJournals. The second, which explored the complex link between Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and income inequality in India and Japan, appeared in the International Journal of Science and Research, demonstrating a sophisticated grasp of global economic issues.

"Research was crucial for me in shaping my understanding of Economics. It allowed me to go beyond theoretical knowledge and actively engage with real-world issues," said Romeer. This active engagement has fueled his ambition to utilize his economic expertise to address pressing global challenges.

Impactful Community Engagement and Mentorship

Beyond his academic pursuits, Romeer dedicated himself to impactful extracurricular activities. His initiative, Project Ekta, was designed to raise awareness about marginalized communities in Mumbai. Working with peers, he conducted over 55 interviews, gathering powerful insights into the community members' struggles. The project's targeted Instagram campaigns successfully reached over 280,000 people, fostering widespread awareness and inspiring action.

Romeer's dedication to service is deeply personal. One of his most fulfilling experiences has been teaching mathematics to children at the Bal Bhawan Orphanage, many of whom lack access to quality education. "Education has the power to change lives," he says. "Mentoring these children and watching them improve has been incredibly rewarding."
