Shweta Chari is a star, but not because of fame and fortune. Chari is responsible for the laughter of 30,000 kids who get to play with toys every week. Kids, who are forced to become labourers at an early age, often in dangerous industries.
To make these children feel like children again, in 2004, Shweta founded Toybank. It is a non-profit that believes in giving children a childhood through play and toys. For kids whose families can't afford to buy toys, the NGO provides toys and a place to play, considered a luxury by many.
As of 2012, Toybank had 30 toy libraries. Now, it reaches 30,000 urban and rural children every week through 200 toy libraries, mostly around the Maharashtra region. It has also enabled children from different socio-economic backgrounds to mix at these toy libraries.
