Tourism is the backbone of Ladakh's economy. It has beautiful monasteries, picturesque locations and rich arts & crafts. Around 3 lakh visitors come here annually for adventure and eco-tourism. Popular activities include climbing, jeeps tours, rafting and high-altitude trekking. Locals associated with tourism industry are cheerful since Ladakh became a Union Territory. A new Incentive Policy is being introduced to promote tourism in UT of Ladakh. Its special emphasis is to promote remote areas under various tourism schemes. There are expectations that new infrastructure will attract more tourists. Demands are to open new peaks, tracks and circuits for visitors. Plans are also to make UT of Ladakh an all-season tourism destination. Amid Covid-19 pandemic, the UT of Ladakh is preparing for its future tourism policy. It will help them to host the visitors with much preparedness.
