Thick layer of smog covers NCR AQI under ‘severe’ category

The air quality of the National Capital Region (NCR) took a hit due to a combination of stubble burning, firecracker emissions and unfavourable meteorological conditions in the past few weeks. A thick layer of smog continued to cover the sky in the NCR region on November 03. A public health emergency has been declared in the Delhi-NCR region due to rising pollution. Residents of Ghaziabad have complained of a spike in respiratory problems, allergies and other health issues. According to the National Air Quality Index (NAQI) data, major pollutants in Noida are PM 2.5 at 486 and PM 10 at 459 both in the 'severe' category. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared a public health emergency due to rising air pollution levels. A higher value of AQI indicates a greater level of air pollution and health concern.
