Stubble burning continues in Ludhiana despite air quality in ‘severe’ category

The stubble burning continued in Punjab’s Ludhiana despite having a massive level of air pollution in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). Even after state government's ban, farmers burnt crops in Ludhiana on November 04. Farmers continued burning stubble in Kotmana village of Ludhiana. Issue of stubble burning in Punjab and Haryana has become a major cause of air pollution not only for their states but also for Delhi-NCR region. On November 01, the Supreme Court-mandated Environment Pollution (Prevention and Control) Authority (EPCA) declared a public health emergency in Delhi due to rising air pollution levels. Earlier, farmers who were identified for burning stubbles had been sent legal notices to stop the practice.
