Shivamogga Habitat loss forces lion-tailed macaques to come on roads for food

Shrinking forest cover has forced lion-tailed macaques, an endangered species to come on roads of Agumbe Ghat in search for food. The species in Western Ghats started disappearing after loss of fruit bearing trees in the forests. Macaques can now be seen sitting on the safety walls beside roads in Thirthahalli Taluk of Shivamogga district waiting for junk food given by tourists.
